Manufacturing insurance worth reviewing before you renew
When your insurance renewal costs more, you want to know whether there is a better option. BIG helps manufacturers compare available coverage using a clear picture of the products they make, their equipment and the people doing the work.
What you manufacture
The product and the process both matter
A machine shop, a metal fabricator and a business assembling finished goods may have similar revenue but different insurance needs. We begin with what you make, how you make it and who uses the finished product. Materials, subcontracted work and where products are sold can all be relevant to that description.
Let us know if your product mix or operations have changed. Last year’s application may no longer capture new machinery, a larger workforce or a different kind of customer contract.
Comparing the renewal
Separate price changes from coverage changes
Manufacturing insurance often involves several policies or coverage sections, including property, liability and workers compensation. Equipment breakdown and business income are also worth discussing where production depends on particular machinery or processes.
When you compare proposals, use the same payroll, sales and property information. Then look at deductibles, limits and exclusions alongside the premium. If one proposal is cheaper, you should be able to understand what changed and whether that change is acceptable to your business.
Preparing a useful submission
Start with the renewal and your current operating details
Send your current policies and renewal proposal, recent loss information, estimated payroll and sales, and a summary of your operations. Include building and equipment values, major machinery and any customer insurance requirements.
We can help review that information and seek available alternatives. You do not need to be expanding or moving to have a reason to compare your coverage. An ordinary renewal is a practical time to ask whether your insurance still fits.
